Learning More About Jesus and Becoming a Christian

The first step to learning more about
Jesus and becoming a Christian
is probably to find Bible passages that will speak to you.

The basics are very simple! John 3:16 captures it perfectly:

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

I would recommend the following passages, often referred to as "The Roman Road", as an excellent place to begin:

Romans 3:23 "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
Romans 6:23 "the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"
Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 10:9-10 "if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation."
Romans 10:13 "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved."

The internet has a wealth of resources to help you study the Bible.

Here are some that I find very useful:

BibleGateway provides tools for reading and researching the Bible in different translations and languages.
The Upper Room offers many online and printed resources. I enjoy their daily devotional.
Audio Bible Online lets you just sit back a listen using RealPlayer!

When trying to learn, it can be tremendously helpful to have someone to guide you.

There is a nearly limitless number of Christians who would eagerly take the opportunity to help you learn more about Jesus and salvation. Just ask any Christian you know and I'm sure they'll be glad to support you.

If you don't have a Christian friend, you can contact a Church in your area and I'm positive they will provide all the support you need. If you don't have a Bible, they'll probably give you one and help you understand the important message it contains.

If you just don't know where else to turn, contact me and I'll help you find someone in your area to provide you all the support you need.

When you are ready, there is only one step to becoming a Christian: Accept Christ as your savior.

For many people, accepting Christ as their savior is symbolized in a simple prayer. Salvation comes from the acceptance of Christ as your savior, not from saying a prayer. However, for most people, that acceptance ultimately manifests in a simple prayer similar to this:

"Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner, and I am sorry. I need a Savior. I know I cannot save myself. I believe by faith that Jesus, your Son, died on the cross to be my Savior. I believe He arose from the grave to live as my Lord. I turn from my sin. I ask You, Lord Jesus, to forgive my sin and come into my heart. I trust you as my Savior and receive you as my Lord. Thank you, Jesus, for saving me."

Once you accept Christ as your savior, He will lead you; just follow!
